Trailblazers: Meet The Creatives- Episode 6 : Nicole Thomas, The Author

Mi Gente! Welcome Back to a new episode of Trailblazers: Meet The Creative series!

Today, we talk with author Nicole Thomas who joined my workshop this past November alongside her daughter Mariah (episode 1).

Tell us about yourself, who are you and what do you do.

I am a Learning and Development professional, writer and workshop facilitator. I am the author of the author of the books Let’s Talk: Positive Affirmations for the Soul#ThoughtsMy View from the Summit (VFS), and the journal And for This I Am Grateful. I’m also a proud parent of a college student.

What’s your background?

My background is in corporate training and organizational development. In this space, I have facilitated training on Communication skills, Time Management, Management Skills, Team-Building. Emotional Intelligence, Goal setting, and Coaching. I have also designed and developed training to meet employee and company needs.

Define your artistry…

My artistry is writing. My goal is to create work that inspires others to push through obstacles and chase their dreams. And, not only chase them but achieve them. My writing is designed to help others appreciate their worth and be aware of the power of their speech and how it can shape the future.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by everyday life, the diversity, and energy of the city and the pursuit of dreams and happiness. Stories of people who push through adversity to achieve their goals, against all the odds, inspire me to pursue my passion to use my writing to encourage others.

What does your work aim to say? What themes do you pursue?

My work aims to encourage people to change their internal dialogue, the way they think about themselves and their value. My hope is for people to use my work as a tool to practice gratitude and self-acceptance and give themselves as much credit, praise, hugs, and support as they give to the people they love and value. I pursue themes on self-love, positive thinking, gratitude and achieving goals.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

The most memorable response I received was when I found out a seven-year-old was reading and enjoying my recent book, Let’s Talk: Positive Affirmations for the Soul. It was good to know that my book was able to reach a young audience and shape how they speak to themselves.

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest influences include Oprah Winfrey, May Angelou, and my family: mother, maternal grandmother and aunt. These women have been and still are positive role models. They have been a symbol of hope and resilience and have shaped my view of who I am as a woman and as a person.

Should art be funded? Why?

Yes, I believe art should be funded. Art is a creative outlet that allows us to tap into the deepest part of ourselves to draw out the beauty that we didn’t know we could create. Art also enables us to find our unique voice through creative expression.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I’ve been given is to learn to trust my own voice and intuition and free myself from the opinions and judgment of others. This advice has been liberating and has allowed me to take more risks without the fear of the perception of others.

What is your dream project?

My dream project is to start a non-profit organization to help women overcome obstacles to achieving their goals and help them reach their full potential.

What’s next for Nicole?

Right now, I am working on a writing project to inspire others to continue to use positive thinking to change behavior and achieve goals. My goal is to finish the project by the end of the summer of this year.

Nicole, we are rooting for you and look forward to this writing project! In the meantime, connect with Nicole via social media and support her work by purchasing her books and/or inviting her to speak at your events.
