Alicia Anabel Santos – Founder of the New York City Latina Writers Group (NYCLWG)

It was January 2013 when Wendy Angulo attended her first meeting of the NYC Latina Writers Group (NYCLWG).  She brought with her this passion for storytelling and an authentic voice. The NYCLWG has been a welcome place for women writers since 2006, a place to develop their characters and see their stories on the page. That day something ignited in her! And since then she has surrounded herself by writing sisters and the New York City artist community. Wendy has written about love of family, healing, secrets that devastate and is devoted to preserving Latino culture and our traditions. A few months later she shared with me her desire to create a larger space for artists in Queens. Her vision was to curate an event where community and children like her son would be exposed to art, to poetry and to our history—bringing the arts to Queens. This was the birth of Canvas of Words this beautiful marriage between art and words to be displayed and shared with the world. She has created opportunity for Latinos and all artists to be celebrated. As her vision continues to expand she is on FIRE and showing the world that Wendy Angulo Productions is here to stay!
